Are you fierce?

…a woman must be fierce. Not destructively fierce but beautifully fierce.

Wagner, Kimberly (2012-08-24). Fierce Women: The Power of a Soft Warrior (Kindle Locations 332-333). Moody Publishers. Kindle Edition.

Fierce.  What picture comes to mind when you think of that word? Mine is Mel Gibson as William Wallace, crying “Freedom!” in Braveheart.  Fierce bravery, fierce love, fierce integrity to live and die well.

Can you think of a woman?  I can’t think of a Hollywood character example from any recent movies. Unfortunately, I see them as the destructively fierce version not the beautifully fierce that God calls us.  I can see Elisabeth Elliot as a model for the beautifully fierce woman who God calls us to be, as exemplified in this quote from an interview about her thoughts when she found out her husband was murdered in sharing the gospel in South America:

“And when we got the word that they were all dead, what can you do except turn to Christ and say, ‘Lord, you are in charge, I accept this.’

I find it interesting that the secular world can still depict heroes that stand for faith, honor, and integrity in men but that they can no longer do so for women.  We look at much of secular womanhood and if they are “fierce” they are independent, bold (brash?), self-seeking, power-hungry and manipulative.

A god-honoring woman can be fierce in her faith, honor and integrity.  And there are many women we can look at through history to show us this…although I doubt we will see a movie about Elisabeth Elliot’s strength in faith or Amy Carmichael’s devotion to Christ in 53 years of work with India’s orphans.

…women have an enormous power of influence and they can use it to either inspire men or destroy them.

What kind of woman do you want to be?  This is beyond personalities or tendencies that you may have.  God has created you to be an inspirational influence on others for His glory…or you can be a destructive one.  It’s time to be beautifully fierce!
