It’s been an awesome and intense 10 years, amidst great joys and deep sorrows. This will be our second non-child getaway in those 10 years, so yeah, it’s a big deal. For some reason it’s much more difficult to ask and impose upon others to watch 3 children for days and nights on end than it is for the asking of one. Fortunately, the grandparents have swooped in for the happy task and I didn’t have to split all the siblings up.
Most people plan these things way in advance and have some 5 day trip planned. Not us. John’s work schedule, our finances and leaving 3 children means our getaway is like a stay-away. So for 2 nights and 1 day, we get to go out on the town and take a road trip a few hours away and try out some stand-up paddleboarding snagged on discount off of Groupon. I anticipate a late night movie (at the theatre no less), perhaps a mixed drink with an umbrella in it after floating in the bay, followed by a nice dinner without chicken nuggets on the menu.
It’s going to be a brief getaway, but one that has been hard-earned and desperately needed.
